Jimmy and Manon – Their Story

About Jimmy

Passionate about sports since childhood, Jimmy Pelletier’s life took a dramatic turn at the age of 19 when a car accident left him paraplegic in 1996. After an intense rehabilitation period, Jimmy set an ambitious goal: to become a Paralympic athlete. Not only did he achieve this goal by competing in the 2006 Turin Paralympic Games in para nordic skiing, but he also joined the Canadian handcycling team, demonstrating remarkable resilience and determination.

Beyond his athletic career, Jimmy has taken on large-scale sporting challenges to support Adaptavie and other causes close to his heart. In 2018, he accomplished an extraordinary milestone by becoming the second person in the world to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro using a mountain handbike. This achievement highlights his strength and unwavering courage.

Building on his success, in 2019, Jimmy completed another remarkable challenge by handcycling across Canada, covering 7,200 km in 65 days. This journey not only showcased his relentless determination but also inspired countless people, proving that physical limitations are not barriers to achieving ambitious goals.

In addition to these incredible accomplishments, Jimmy organizes the annual “Jimmy Pelletier Cycling Ride – la Randonnée Jimmy Pelletier,” a fundraising event that brings together around a hundred participants. These participants, a mix of business leaders and cycling enthusiasts from the general public, share a passion for the sport and wholeheartedly embrace Jimmy’s cause. The ride has become a key gathering for those who value inclusion and resilience. It is not just a physical challenge but also a celebration of solidarity, raising essential funds for Adaptavie’s programs and promoting a more inclusive society.

In April 2025, Jimmy was awarded the Medal of Honour of the National Assembly of Quebec for his exceptional commitment to inclusion, his remarkable contribution to the community through the Jimmy Pelletier Ride, and for inspiring thousands of people to push beyond their limits.
